I moved to Roanoke largely for my wife, who was born and raised here. While initially hesitant to leave my much-larger hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, there are many things I have come to appreciate about smaller city-living since moving here nearly 25 years ago. In addition to working for the same highway construction company throughout my time in Roanoke, I have also become very involved with our local chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

One thing I truly respect about the Roanoke area is the number of faith-based groups that are willing and able to share their messages within the local schools and community. In addition, I have been pleased to see organizations such as the Salvation Army and American Cancer Society grow with volunteerism. Roanoke makes it easy for interested individuals to get involved in a variety of different activities without having to look too hard. Other things that I have been impressed with over the years include the Mill Mountain Zoo, the Star, the Roanoke City Market, and the Greenway Trail. Coming from someone who is not originally from the area, I truly feel as though Roanoke has a lot to show-off and be proud of.
